Web Savvy Methods of Converting Facebook Visitors Into Buyers

In my last post I wrote about how you should know where your Facebook business page fits in your sales funnel.  If you didn’t get a chance to read that post, here’s the link:

The Traditional 3-Step Process

In case you don’t know, I don’t claim to be an expert in all areas of Social Media. I do use it on a daily basis, and over time I have seen results from it.  However, to be totally honest with you, I don’t claim to know some Top-Secret Super Guru Method of using social media to generate thousands of dollars daily.

If you are looking for a good resource like that, you may want to hire this consultant:

So, this is what I've been doing in social media, it is what is called by some marketers as the 3-step process.  Very simply, it looks like this:

Breakdown of the Steps:

Step #1 - Facebook With this step, you are going to update your status in some way.  If you look at the Nature Valley Granola Bar Facebook page, you’ll see that they have all sorts of updates.  They don’t promote their items every day, because when you’re selling all of the time it is “Big-B” BORING!

Nature Valley shows pictures taken by fans of the great outdoors.  Once my wife and I were hiking around Colorado, and Nature Valley was asking people to post pictures of themselves holding their product in the great outdoors.  My wife was only too thrilled to have her picture posted with a granola bar.  Sheesh!

This is a case of Nature Valley promoting AND getting customers to add to their Facebook Fan page.  So they were getting customer involvement and getting their Facebook page updated at the same time!  Double the Fun! (Wait, that’s a gum product!  My bad!)

Step #2 - Your Blog or Website Once you've engaged your prospects, you can now get them to your website or blog, where they can read information that is of importance to THEM.  (You always want to make sure that you’re not writing things that interest you; it’s your audience that counts!)

You need to have links to your coupons, squeeze page, irresistible offer, or whatever else on the page that they are reading.  Don’t overdo it, but place the links where it can be plainly seen and if possible make them a part of your website’s landscape.

You can do this several different ways too!  You can have an advertisement close to your valuable content while at the same time, you can also have an RSS feed next to your content and an opt-in box as well.

What these last two options will do, is allow you to build your marketing list so you can send them a well written offer…eventually.

Step #3 – Conversion…Cha-Ching!  In your final step in the 3-Step Process, you’ll have your sales page work its magic.  In reality, this is the page that’s going to require the most skill to craft, because you’re going to have to use words to sell your service or product.  Not as easy as it looks.  The best way to do this if you have no experience yourself, is to hire someone to craft your compelling copy.

Depending on what you are selling and how much you are charging for your goodies, your message can run from about a page or two, to ten pages!  I just read a sales letter a few days ago, and it was over twenty pages in length!!!

Usually, if you’re selling a high ticket item, you’ll have to use a pretty long sales letter to overcome the load of objections in the mind of a prospect.

I can tell you that if you hire a good copywriter it will run you big bucks.  In some cases they’ll charge you a minimum of $3000 and half of that is up front, non-negotiable and non-refundable.

On the other hand, you can hire a cheap copywriter and have low conversions.  It all depends on how much you really want to make.

Try This Web Savvy Internet Traffic Generation Method To Grab Readers And Prospects!

Another relatively free system of getting people to your site is by getting others to spread the word for you and give you "Virus Status".

The tools of choice  for getting this done are what are known as “Share Tools” (A.K.A. - Tell a Friend Buttons, Share Buttons, etc.) ( These are basically buttons that are placed at key places on your website or blog that allow your readers to share your postings and articles with their friends.

The most popular of these are at these sites:

I’m sure you've seen these things because they are everywhere.  The places I see them most are on job sites like Monster or Indeed.  You click on the page that has a job listing and you can immediately email a friend and let them know about the job you see posted.

Well, you can do the same thing on your site.  If you have a posting, video clip, contest, opt-in box to get a freebie or anything else, you can easily place one of these buttons next to them and people that come to your site ca share the feature you have with their friends.

Here is a real good video that talks about using "Share Buttons"

Not only that, but when someone refers their friend and THEY like what you have, THEY will refer THEIR friends to your site.  Thus your site online will have “Viral Status”.

See how simple it all is?  However, this is just another reason why you should not be producing a lot of CRAP on your site or blog.  If your content is pretty good, chances are you will be slowly but surely moving toward that authority status that all IMer’s lust and pine after.

Implementing the “Share Tools”

Setting up these buttons is pretty easy.  The sites that carry them usually have a small bit of code on them that you can easily copy and paste into your web page.
Usually the code looks something like this:

I know that Blogger has a push button system called “Gadgets” that make it so easy to launch tools like this.  As a matter of fact, there is a gadget called Java and HTML coder that makes it so easy to add stuff like this to your sidebar.   All you have to do is add the code you find to the Gadget box and it will display it as soon as you hit “save” and exit the template.

The Downside of Using These Tools

For just about everything you do in this universe, there is always either detractors telling you why something won’t work, or there is an aspect of it that just doesn’t work.

Many of the people that are in the Internet marketing arena will tell you that if your content is really good, then the person that read your content will probably copy the link and paste it into an email or browser window.  If they are too lazy to do that, then chances are they probably didn’t care THAT MUCH for your content anyway.

However, many marketers will tell you that removing any barrier to completing an action is a good thing.  So, you’ll just have to decide whether or not you want to use this tool.

How to Write a Blog Post to Increase Online Traffic

This is one method of traffic generation that requires you to do some homework before you actually begin to implement it.

The “Follow The Leader” Blog Posting Strategy

With this technique you’ll need to find out what posts are generating a lot of traffic that is relevant to your subject matter.  You’ll need to go to a site like DIGG and find really popular posts that people have been making in your subject area.

Here are a few of the sites that are very similar to DIGG that you can use for this strategy:

When you start doing your research, you need to look for a post that is:

  • Relevant to your niche
  • Is wildly popular
  • You can somehow develop and write more than one post about
  • Has been posted recently

Keeping an Eye on Keywords and SEO

Once you find a post like this, you need to read it, dissect it and check out the keywords in the post.  When you look at the keywords, you need to pay attention to what kind they were using, how many times, if they were used in header tags in the HTML, and what size fonts they appeared in.

An easy way to dissect a post like this is to highlight all of the text in the post, drop it into a word processor and then use the “Find” function on the word processor when you see a word that looks like it is a keyword.  Usually a keyword or keyword phrase will appear multiple times on a page in various places.

NOTE:  You can also search for the number of times that a keyword was searched for using your Internet browser’s “Find” function. On Google Chrome you can locate the “Find” function.   I personally like dissecting posts by using my Microsoft Word processor, but if you want to use your browser, that’s fine.
However, the best way to dissect a post for SEO purposes is to right click on a webpage and then look at the source code using the Find function.  I recently looked at a top ranked article on how to write a blog post and the keyword phrase was only on the webpage two times.  However, when I looked at the source code, the term was in the HTML code eleven times!

Writing the Post to Increase the Traffic

Once you know what keywords to use and the type of article that draws attention, you can now begin to write the post.  Make sure that you are not plagiarizing any of the material you’ll be writing and keep a list of the keywords next to you as you write.

A variation on this method would be to just key in the keyword phrase and find out which posts come up the closest to the first page of the search engine results.  Then take that webpage and dissect it as well.
